The thing is this: goals have to realistic. But what is realistic for one kid may not be for another. I have taught gifted kids, slow kids, mentally disabled kids, and every kind of kid in between...and the 2 things you can't do with any of 'em is 1-make a goal they can't possibly reach and 2- bore them. One is as bad as the other. It's true kids need to be challenged in order to make them better at both sports and academics...but if you are working with them and don't know their individual limits, you can do more to hurt 'em than help 'em.
